Mohawk Mine
Route Information

Mohawk Mine

Driving:
Drive US 2 east from the Index road 10 miles. Turn right at the sign for the 'Money Creek Campground' (short of first tunnel). Go past the campground and over the railroad tracks, where the road veers left. At a "Y" in the road, turn right on the Miller River road, passing some homes on the right (town of Miller River). The easiest way to find the Mohawk Mine route now is to proceed to the West Fork Miller road - go for 3.3 miles to a small turnoff and jersey barrier. Turn around and drive back for about .25 miles to where a woodsy creekbed and large culvert are found on the west side of the road (not easy to see). Park at a wide spot in the road here.

Hiking/Bushwhacking:
The route to the Mohawk Mine and falls starts immediatly on the right side of the culvert and creek, as you go uphill. Sometimes the trail is faint, further up it may be better. It always stays close to the creek, so if you lose the track, just head back toward the creek and continue up. After about 15 minutes, you may be able to hear the crashing of the falls. Soon the trail will end at the main adit. To reach the bottom of the falls, it may be easier to backtrack from the main adit down the trail a ways, then attempt to cross the creek.
