Route Information

Bergeson Prospect

A sketch map of the route sort of shows the route to the mine area.

Driving:
Drive US 2 east from the Index road 10 miles. Turn right at the sign for the 'Money Creek Campground' (short of first tunnel). Go past the campground and over the railroad tracks, where the road veers left. At a "Y" in the road, turn right on the Miller River road, go a short distance until the sign pointing right to the Money Creek road/cabin sites. You will be turning just before the Tyvek Mansion. Set your odometer here. Continue past the newish cabins, for about .5 miles until you come to the concrete bridge that spans Money Creek. Continue over the bridge until your odometer reads 2.1 miles. Be looking for a footpath on the right side up the steep wooded hillside. There may be flagging here as well.

Hiking/Bushwhacking:
Climb up the steep path throught the woods about 100' elevation until you reach the obvious roadbed. Turn left and hike up the brushy roadbed. After a few minutes, the road will turn right toward some downed trees. Climb over the trees and keep going. The road gets easier to travel on after a while. If the brush isn't bad, the old barrel can be seen in the woods to the left as the road turns slightly left uphill. Past the barrel the road then makes a left switchback, and climbs steeper past the large rock at 1600' (about 15 minutes of hiking). A few more minutes will put you close to the sound of the creek, and the right switchback turn of the road (hard to tell). The mine dump is here. Climb up the rocks, or to the right of them to overlook the mine area.
