Driving:
Drive US 2 east from the Index road 10 miles. Turn right at the sign for the 'Money Creek Campground' (short of first tunnel). Go past the campground and over the railroad tracks, where the road veers left. At a "Y" in the road, turn right on the Miller River road, go a short distance until the sign pointing right to the Money Creek road and cabin sites.
Drive about 5.5 miles to the obvious switchbacks on the road. Please note: The switchbacks as shown on the USGS Topo map are in the wrong place. The Green Trails map for the area is correct. Make the two switchbacks, and watch for the first streambed gulch on the right. This is the streambed that holds the mine. Drive past it for another 2/10 of a mile and watch for an old roadbed on the right heading back uphill. As of this writing, the Forest Service road crews had piled up a few small alder trees in front of it. Park on the side of the road here.
Hiking/Bushwhacking:
Hike up the old roadbed for about 5 - 10 minutes until you reach the end. You will be close to the creek now. Bash some brush and make your way down to the creek and follow it upstream. This may be difficult in the spring when it is running high. The slippery rocks and numerous blowdowns in the creek make travel difficult, but after about 25 minutes you should encounter some rock walls on the right as you head up. The San Francisco adit is just a few feet further, hidden by brush and rock on the right side.
