Route Information

Index Bornite Mine

Driving:
Drive US 2 east from Sultan to the Index-Galena road. Take a left here, and go approximately 2.65 miles until the last crossing of Lewis Creek on a signed bridge. (The bridges here are good for calibrating altimeters since they give the elevation.) Take a right into a large dirt parking area (UTM: 610981mE 5297672mN). The road is gated a few feet more up the road.

Hiking/Bushwhacking:
Hike the road approximately 1 mile to around the 3000' level (UTM: 611575mE 5297072mN). This should take about 50 minutes. Look for an old road bed taking off on the left side angling up. The road bed is covered in brush and downed logs.

Continue on the old road, contouring around a gully and make your way on it towards the creek (20 minutes). Near the creek, cut upwards into the open forest, following flags and roughly paralleling Lewis Creek. After about 500 feet (and about 200 feet of vertical elevation gain) look for the adit along the side of the creek, near some small waterfalls (UTM: 612070mE 5297157mN).
